agreed to fast for 21 days. Which means the last Day of the fast will
be December 17th.
This Morning I felt led to read 1 Peter. I started at 1 and am
reading different chapters throughout the day followed by a prayer to
God and for Bill - for God to release the wire that is bound around
his heart. The wire of unjust suffering that he feels. The top three
things that bind his heart as he describes a) a terrible divorce
followed by many years of feeling extorted financially, b) loosing his
son Kenny (Michele's Brother) in a car accident on Christmas Eve, c)
cancer followed by pneumonia after watching what he eats and staying
fit. He is feeling "why me" and this fast is to suffer - for God to
enter and give Bill two things. First, a desire for a personal
relationship with God and second, what 1 Peter 1:2 says "Grace and
Peace be yours in Abundance." I am not praying for God to change his
will - only to help Bill be more comfortable with God's will for his
life.
My fast is going to follow the Daniel Fast with one exception. I am
going to have a bowl of cereal with Milk in the morning due to some
medicine that I need to take. Other than that only Fruits and
Vegetables without salt, sugar or any other seasoning and Water only
to drink.
I still am not sure if I will feel led to do a more severe 3 day fast
from the 15th to the 17th. We shall see as the date gets closer.
I am moved that both of you have volunteered to join me in this fast.
I want to be careful not to have this fast about me - but rather about
Bill: 16"When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for
they disfigure their faces to show men they are fasting. I tell you
the truth, they have received their reward in full.17But when you
fast, put oil on your head and wash your face,18so that it will not be
obvious to men that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is
unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward
you.
I want to thank you both for joining me. This is something I was
thinking about and Matthew, your offering to join me motivated me to
take the next step. If you fast for 21 days or no days, you have
helped - please feel free to do what works for you. Michele - the
same with you - please do what you feel you are called to do.
